  1. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلْفَجْرِ ﴿1﴾

    Wal-Fajr

    By the Dawn

  2. وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍۢ ﴿2﴾

    Wa layaalin 'ashr

    And ten nights,

  3. وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ ﴿3﴾

    Wash shaf'i wal watr

    And the Even and the Odd,

  4. وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ ﴿4﴾

    Wallaili izaa yasr

    And the night when it departeth,

  5. هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌۭ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ ﴿5﴾

    Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr

    There surely is an oath for thinking man.

  6. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ﴿6﴾

    Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi'aad

    Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,

  7. إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ ﴿7﴾

    Iramaa zaatil 'imaad

    With many-columned Iram,

  8. ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ﴿8﴾

    Allatee lam yukhlaq misluhaa fil bilaad

    The like of which was not created in the lands;

  9. وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ ﴿9﴾

    Wa samoodal lazeena jaabus sakhra bil waad

    And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;

  10. وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ﴿10﴾

    Wa fir'awna zil awtaad

    And with Pharaoh, firm of might,

  11. ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ ﴿11﴾

    Allazeena taghaw fil bilaad

    Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands,

  12. فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ ﴿12﴾

    Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad

    And multiplied iniquity therein?

  13. فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ﴿13﴾

    Fasabba 'alaihim Rabbuka sawta 'azaab

    Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.

  14. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ ﴿14﴾

    Inna Rabbaka labil mirsaad

    Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful.

  15. فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ ﴿15﴾

    Fa ammal insaanu izaa mab talaahu Rabbuhoo fa akramahoo wa na' 'amahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee akraman

    As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.

  16. وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَٰنَنِ ﴿16﴾

    Wa ammaaa izaa mabtalaahu faqadara 'alaihi rizqahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee ahaanan

    But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.

  17. كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿17﴾

    Kalla bal laa tukrimooo nal yateem

    Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan

  18. وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿18﴾

    Wa laa tahaaaddoona 'alaata'aamil miskeen

    And urge not on the feeding of the poor.

  19. وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًۭا لَّمًّۭا ﴿19﴾

    Wa taakuloonat turaasa aklal lammaa

    And ye devour heritages with devouring greed.

  20. وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّۭا جَمًّۭا ﴿20﴾

    Wa tuhibboonal maala hubban jammaa

    And love wealth with abounding love.

  21. كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّۭا دَكًّۭا ﴿21﴾

    Kallaaa izaaa dukkatil ardu dakkan dakka

    Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,

  22. وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّۭا صَفًّۭا ﴿22﴾

    Wa jaaa'a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa

    And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,

  23. وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿23﴾

    Wa jeee'a yawma'izim bi jahannnam; Yawma 'iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa

    And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?

  24. يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى ﴿24﴾

    Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee

    He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!

  25. فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿25﴾

    Fa Yawma izil laa yu'azzibu 'azaabahooo ahad

    None punisheth as He will punish on that day!

  26. وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ ﴿26﴾

    Wa laa yoosiqu wasaaqa hooo ahad

    None bindeth as He then will bind.

  27. يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ﴿27﴾

    Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul mutma 'innah

    But ah! thou soul at peace!

  28. ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةًۭ مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ ﴿28﴾

    Irji'eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah

    Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!

  29. فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَٰدِى ﴿29﴾

    Fadkhulee fee 'ibaadee

    Enter thou among My bondmen!

  30. وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى ﴿30﴾

    Wadkhulee jannatee

    Enter thou My Garden!
