  1. بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ ﴿1﴾

    Wassamaaa'i wattaariq

    By the heaven and the Morning Star

  2. وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ ﴿2﴾

    Wa maaa adraaka mattaariq

    - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!

  3. ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ﴿3﴾

    Annajmus saaqib

    - The piercing Star!

  4. إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ ﴿4﴾

    In kullu nafsil lammaa 'alaihaa haafiz

    No human soul but hath a guardian over it.

  5. فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ﴿5﴾

    Fal yanzuril insaanu mimma khuliq

    So let man consider from what he is created.

  6. خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ ﴿6﴾

    Khuliqa mim maaa'in daafiq

    He is created from a gushing fluid

  7. يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ ﴿7﴾

    Yakhruju mim bainissulbi wat taraaa'ib

    That issued from between the loins and ribs.

  8. إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ ﴿8﴾

    Innahoo 'alaa raj'ihee laqaadir

    Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)

  9. يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ ﴿9﴾

    Yawma tublas saraaa'ir

    On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.

  10. فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ ﴿10﴾

    Famaa lahoo min quwwatinw wa laa naasir

    Then will he have no might nor any helper.

  11. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ ﴿11﴾

    Wassamaaa'i zaatir raj'

    By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,

  12. وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ ﴿12﴾

    Wal ardi zaatis sad'

    And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)

  13. إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ ﴿13﴾

    Innahoo laqawlun fasl

    Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word,

  14. وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ ﴿14﴾

    Wa maa huwa bil hazl

    It is no pleasantry.

  15. إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا ﴿15﴾

    Innahum yakeedoona kaidaa

    Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)

  16. وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا ﴿16﴾

    Wa akeedu kaidaa

    And I plot a plot (against them).

  17. فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا ﴿17﴾

    Famahhilil kaafireena amhilhum ruwaidaa

    So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
